Empowering The Community Through Skills Development

At Siyanakekela Centre, we foster self-esteem, community connection, and skill building through engaging activities, all supported by dedicated volunteers led by our compassionate manageress, Thokozile. The emphasis at this Workshop is on encouraging self-esteem, finding a place in the community, learning basic skills, and exposure to stimulating activities. Those attending are involved in a variety of activities to improve their perceptual and other skills. The abilities of the members vary and the Volunteers adjust activities accordingly. The centre is open twice a week and members receive a hearty meal before going home

Community Support

The workshop currently opens twice a week, mainly because of financial constraints. We make use of a local taxi operator to transport the members from their homes to the workshop, and back again at the end of the day. This costs R450 per day, but is essential for the safety of these vulnerable members in their community. The workshop costs R6000-R7000 a month to run, which is sourced from donors. Any donations towards full time staff and daily transport costs will be greatly appreciated, as this will enable us to open the centre more frequently, giving our Members the attention and skills they need to flourish in society. A year-end party is held for the members and staff, where Santa arrives with surprises

Our members participate in a variety of activities, as organized by the volunteers. Educational material is prepared in the Kloof workshop, and sent across for them to write, do maths, colour etc. Each of the members has been given a nicely covered exercise book and they are being taught some simple writing skills and some basic counting. They are given some work to do in their books at home. They are also doing crafts like beading, hand sewing and drawing. Learning to use the sewing machine will happen in due course for those who can manage. Then there are times for games and singing
